Hey, I did an additional 12 weeks of treatment but I had to stop ribavirin for 2 weeks and be on a reduced dose of it fo another 4 weeks due to severe anemia.  If your treatment has gone well so far and you have had no bumps in the road I would investigate all options available to you.  There is evidence to support the longer treatment helps if you have cirrhosis.

good luck,

Meghan

As for me The more I think about it the more  I am on the fence, I'm listing to my gut about this now   I have about another 8 weeks before I have to make that decision   I'll just see how things go next  8 weeks to decide I can go as long as I want after that or stop

i got UND at 23rd day, my last test was at 12th week and it was UND also..

should i extend tx? i cant decide..

I had to quit tx at week 16, due to Pegasys causing autoimmune damage to right eye's optic nerve.   I testd UND five weeks afterward; I won't get another VL test until March.

I would have preferred to continue tx to maximize my odds to achieve SVR...just my 2 cents worth.

yesterday i had a meeting with Prof.Dr.Ulus Salih Akarca,, who is specialist about hepc... he worked also during lab studies of protease inhibitors.

i asked same question to him.. according to doctor if a patient succeed RVR (4 and 12weeks UND) with triple therapy then extending treatment has no positive effects on SVR.. and he adviced me to stop therapy..

i am going to wait until the end of treatment and then decide what to do.

That extra 12 weeks seems like it will be forever and such a shock   I was told after breaking though@ 48 weeks   I might get away with another 24 weeks  triple  I cried when I had to take shot 49  now I'm told 48 would be better and they want me to do 48 I'm so scared of breaking through again I'm accepting the sentence. It makes me sick just thinking what if this doesn't work either I've already got 64 weeks in If I stop mid stream and break through  I will loose it  Funny thing there is no guarantee I hope I hold out and hope it works

I did an additional twelve weeks, for a total of 36, and I am glad I did. If the doctor wants you to do it, I think you should.

When my Dr. and I met at 24 weeks we discussed ending treatment then and the advantages of extending treatment. He explained that all the current SVR numbers are based on a full treatment coarse of 48 weeks, not on a shortend coarse. He left it up to me to decide, and i chose the full 48 week coarse. Considering the fact that the worst 12 weeks(incivek) were long since over and the fact that Interferon and Ribaviran have been used for many years with minnimal long term adverse side effects. It may just be me but i've had treatment fail three times before and i dont want to have to go through this again.

Cmerduran , I would consider what the longterm possiblities are. If you relapse how likely is it that you're able to particapate in a trial of one of the new combo's, if it is likley I might stop at 24 weeks.  But on the other hand it is unlikely that you can access the new drugs, I'd extend and get the biggest bang you can out of this Rx.

Hi Murat, this is up to you and your doctor. If it was me, with your excellent response, I would follow the protocols and finish at 24 weeks. These drugs may have long term side effects, and the sooner you can get off them the better. What is your doctor's evidence that another 8 weeks would alter your SVR chances? Good luck with whatever you decide. Cheers

Sounds like you had a great TX. I would go for the longer Tx just so you know you have done it the way it was prescribed.
