Hi Sally,

Citalopram! It helped me get break the cycle of thinking "on-the-dark-side" that I got bogged down in, just right after I finished treatment.    I was on Citalopram for about two months, I didn't care for the side efffects, even at 20mg I felt flat and unmotivated during the day.   I just weaned myself off and haven't taken any for over a week.   I feel like my 'old self' now, I hope that this is permanent because...,

I got  my  joy back!!!   smile

Good luck to you, best of wishes,

Tim

mmmm can just imagine the party that must have been going on its strange to feel like I must be nearly the only one on this regime...mental disorientation might just sum it up and anxiety due to feeling like I can't relax as i might go potty!!

I won't give up and my team are monitoring me very closely and hopefully I will be skipping along again in a mo.....feels good to talk

Caught me completely unawares but luckily my team had mentioned the possibility that the Int causes some issues and that they have had to section 4 people who had prior mental health issues at the start of my treatment...not there yet!!!!

its a strange feeling but knowing there is support here massively helps....waiting patiently for some respite and hubby won't let me put the windows down in the car due to my Riba outbursts which he finds hilarious as he is not used to it biggrin

Hi Globetrotter:

I'm glad you posted because if we are to be of any help to one another we have to be honest about the bad as well as the good.  You should have seen it here back in 2011-2012.  Many people on tx were in bad shape.  Many if not most were having significant side effects; rescue drugs were being used, dosages were being adjusted, tx was being discontinued.  It was mayhem around here.  smile  These drugs can mess with your brain chemistry as well as your body.

I didn't have depression but I had massive mental disorientation accompanied by high anxiety.  I didn't take A/Ds but took 1/2 xanax with several shots because things got worse for a few days post Interferon injection.  According to others who posted here the A/Ds can take a while to kick in--like a week or two--but they can be very helpful.

If you are doing well physically then I would hang in there because things very well may improve.  Just make sure you ask for help if you need it.

Thank you both for your support it helps a great deal....in what I can only describe as an out of control all  over the place feeling that is slightly scary...I do hope the AD' take the edge off as you say Cinnamon girl...hubby still feels safe sitting next to me so thats a positive biggrin

Thanks for the hugs, feel less on my own

Hi Sally,

I'm so glad you mentioned it to your team. I had Interferon induced depression when I was on Tx the first time. I didn't know what was wrong, but it seemed like the world was caving in on me. It was a terrible feeling and I wasn't warned about the possibility. Fortunately when I told my doc/nurse about it, they knew what it was and I started an AD. My second go at Tx included Interferon too. Remembering how I felt the first time, I told the doctor that I wouldn't start Tx unless I could start an AD ahead of time. It makes all the difference in the world and I'm certain you'll be feeling better shortly. I hope you know that we are here for you to vent anytime the urge or desire hits you! We're all in this together!! Hang in there, the finish line is near.... Good luck!

Hi Sally, good to hear from you again, and please remember you`re welcome to vent and offload here any time you like, that`s what we`re here for!  (And that`s why we have a section called `Rant and Rave`!)

It sounds like you`ve done the right thing by starting on an anti-depressant at this stage in your treatment and actually Citalopram was what I took when I was on tx too.  Personally I found it kicked in quite quickly but you might have to wait for 2 or 3 weeks to feel the full effects.  I found it very helpful as the emotional side effects were the most difficult for me, and after starting on a low dose I increased it to a higher dose at about half way through.  My experience was it didn`t take away all the anxiety and irritability but it helped a lot with my mood swings and just smoothed out all the sharp edges and helped me cope more easily.  It also helped me relax and get a better night`s sleep, which also helped a lot.

Best of luck, and do keep in touch, we`re here for you!  smile

its been quite a while since I have posted, mainly because I did not want to write anything too negative, however I need to offload!!!

From week 21, its week 27 next week I have reached a place that I am struggling to comprehend and its a freaky feeling of 'they are coming to take me away'...I finally admitted to my team last Monday that mentally I feel unable to fight the the way my head feels and they suspect the Peg Int has suppressed serotonin production and is purely medically induced...its different to the up and down moods at the beginning that I was mentally strong enough to ride. Long story short I have started Citalopram this week and will stay on I guess until the 48 weeks and have never been on AD's before.

Does anyone have any experience of them and when they kick in is there a significant change.....
