Thanks Roxie for the info. I was hoping some one who had completed the same tx would respond with a vision of the future. Nice to know what to expect, and it sounds good Roxie.

Isis, yes, the dazed and confused thing is lifting. Noticed it on the 4th day, and what a relief that is. My thinking had become much clearer. Not completely there yet but moving in that direction. Thank you for asking.

I am so glad to hear this, jimbob, but not surprised.  :)

Is the "dazed and confused" stuff clearing up?   I had that too and was so relieved to have my brain back.

Jimbob,  So glad that you have successfully finished treatment.

Big Congratulations!!!

As someone who did the same treatment, I agree that everyday you feel a little better.  At EOT I was feeling so bad, anemic and don't think I could have done one more week.  But I just got my 4 week after treatment CBC results and every number is within normal limits.  My anemia is gone, my energy is back, no more itching and I feel better than I have in years.

Hey JimBob

Belated Congrats! on making it to EOT its a very nice feeling to be UND and look forward to seeing yourself feeling extra energy.

The first couple of weeks can be sometimes a little unsteady but you should be feeling really well two weeks after.

I understand the thought about the $28,000 pills the bottle should have been gold plated with a pad lock and laser eye scan just to open the bottle.

In realty its the cost of research, trials, greed and buying Pharmasset that caused the high price. These drug companies have to follow the ROI rules (Return on investment) that their bean counters come up with.

Anyway, stay eating healthy and go for a long walk in a beautiful park and enjoy you new outlook.

Thanx Tim.

I too am glad to be done with it. That last week always seem to drag - like an 8 yr old waiting for Christmas.

Taz, you're over the hump sister! You're on same tx as me. I hope you , me, all of us get rid of dreaded stuff with these new meds . I wanted to do something like you and Scruffy did, but I was so tired week 12, I couldn't think of anything and my creativity was completely gone. Still have the last bottles and dart tho. Can send them out on the local river in a small burning ship like the Vikings.... Still hard to believe one of those bottles held $28,000.00! Hell, for $28,000.00 I should have them mounted on a canvas and hung in the living room!

Hi Duane,

I agree with your desire to put an end to the "off label" designation of Sov/Oly. There have been plenty of arguments and appeals submitted to various organizations and insurance companies supporting your position. The reason that this has come to pass is that there were no completed phase 3 studies on the protocol. Once Gilead got control of Sovaldi, all rules changed and the determinations for rates of success ended with the phase 2 studies. Even though those rates of success were high, there was strong resistance among the FDA and insurance companies to authorize approval, even though the proof of high rates of success slapped them in the face. The fact that the two drugs were being developed by different manufacturers ultimately was responsible for all the problems, not to mention the price. Finally after much fanfare and constant appeals by various organizations and doctors, insurance companies, when presented with proof of end stage liver disease (advanced fibrosis), began to approve the treatment and the exorbitant costs, because it's so effective. Now, with that said, I wanted to bring to your attention the new trial (Optimist) that has been started to finally provide the phase 3 results of Sovaldi and Simeprevir (Olysio). There is also an action that has been requested of the FDA to expedite approval of this protocol and put an end to the off label nonsense.

Thanks all.

Dzdays--

This tx was still better tolerated than the early pioneers. Believe me , I argued for the S/O combo, but most txs are determined by ins. regulations, and the accepted tx by their standards.

Congrats JB wish the best for you.

The more I read these tx stories and how easy mine has been I feel guilty.....why on earth.. other then the mighty dollar would they put anybody on any other tx then what they call the "off lable" use of S/O ? this tx is so benign in sx in so far as we (i) know, and Is so effective it just seems cruel to give anyone anything else. It actually angers me.

In 12 weeks I went from having a MELD of 17 to 12 today INR down to 1.3 and plates up to 65 other LFT's near or at normal.

Just because you are not on a transplant list or don't have a really bad liver, doesn't mean you should have to suffer more with a tx...I understand those that started the supposed SOC tx prior to this being introduced, but for those that have yet to start tx I'd beg for this combo before taking some of the harsher drugs that others have had.

I know it's new but I wish we could start a petition to get the "off lable" designation removed it's expensive but not near as much as if you develop cirrhosis and end up needing a transplant or the tx kills your liver

Anyway sorry for the rant didn't mean to hijack ur thread.

Best wishes JB

Oh Scruff, no, I didn't do anything stupid (did enough stupid things years ago) , but I did stare at those last three pills for the longest time remembering my first dose and how many weeks to this final gulp. You do know I quit drinking, smoking and stupid don't you? Well okay, I still fall off the wagon with stupid sometimes....

Thank you all for your support. I apologize for responding so late but the 'cursed' sx expected during tx didn't really hit until the 12th week, and 3 days EOT. I have been so fatigued I had to drag myself to lab and the Dr's office.
I couldn't have made it without the support of this forum. Especially the moderators, whose knowledge, compassion and guidance have not only helped me through, but countless others. My deepest gratitude to you. And to the other members on here who have contributed in so many ways without even knowing. Especially the anal-retentive ones,...you know who you are. . However small, there was always something we others could identify with. Even before tx, I looked here to make a list of things needed based on symtoms and remedies provided by members here, past and present.

I still don't have my labs from last Monday, but will keep you posted.

Hey James,

This calls for a great big  WOOT   Congratulations my friend! You may well be one of the last Interferon Cowboys. My suggestion to you is to wear that badge with honor. I'm so glad that the new treatments avoid that nasty chemical but they'll never understand what it means to fight through a Tx protocol that feels like it might kill you, let alone what the hep was doing to you! I did it twice and now that I've achieved SVR, the actual treatment holds significance like no other. In a few months the small things will fall from memory but you'll never forget how you felt, and when you get that official SVR, all of it will suddenly be worth it. Hold your head high Jimbob, you did it..... Good luck!

Took my last shot 5/25/14 and my last 3 riba pills 6/1/14 at 7:15 p.m. Was never so glad to swallow 3 pills in my life. I'm so relieved that it's over- too tired to celebrate -but relieved. Went for my 12 week labs yesterday, and have an appointment with my NP tomorrow, so obviousl, won't have results for a few days. Hoping it will show UND as well.

It occurred to me the last few days that I, and a few others on here, could be the last of the 'shooters',... in this country anyway. ...I certainly hope so for anyone who is considering tx. What a great day that will be. However, it is certainly doable at 12 , considering the previous SOC of 48.
