I posted awhile back about another Hep C patient at the clinic who neglected HCC screens for several years. My doctor had to tell her that she had advanced liver cancer with no good Tx options. None of us want to be there, so keep having the U/S exams and doctor followups for as long as necessary!

 Hi John,

Thanks for sharing that story with us. It's both wise and outstanding advice for those with cirrhosis. I was rated F2-3, and after my past fondness for the grog, and 35+ years HCV+, I'm classing it F3. Fortunately my wife has a diagnostic ultrasound business, so they come at a great price for me. I take thankful advantage of the opportunity. I support your recommendation highly.

Good news John. Always nice to have a clear U/S.

Are you having them every 6 months for a while ? Cheers.

Thanks all. The plan is to repeat U/S every 6 months for the indefinite future. I assume this will be the routine until they develop a biomarker test for HCC more advanced than AFP or some other more accurate imaging procedure. Besides fasting for 8 hours prior to the test, there aren't too many medical procedures easier to take or tolerate. A small price to pay for peace of mind (parking is $10.00 if I were to gripe about something).

I had to wait until this week to have my 3rd ultrasound. The doctor called today with the results: no fluid on the liver, no HCC, and otherwise unremarkable.
